Join us in person at The Calgary Petroleum Club - Devonian Room on Thursday, June 20 for our monthly Technical Session. Please arrive early to get settled before the presentation that starts at 3:30pm sharp!

**Technical sessions are for CWiE members and prospective members only. Our Mix & Mingler starts at 4:30pm after the technical session and are open to all industry professionals

The Nuclear Renaissance in Canada

The topic of nuclear energy will be discussed at a high level, capturing details around public perceptions, the nuclear energy cycle, benefits and impacts of nuclear and Alberta initiatives, all supporting the concept that nuclear is experiencing a renaissance in Canada.

Vanessa White, P.Eng. Executive Director, Clean Technology 

Vanessa is the Executive Director, Clean Technology at Alberta Innovates. The Clean Technology team contributes to the advancement of grid modernization and small modular nuclear reactor development and deployment through ecosystem development. The team supports technology development in areas of Grid Modernization, Clean Heat and Power, Critical Minerals, Energy Storage, Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage, and Hydrogen in Alberta.

Prior to joining Alberta Innovates, Vanessa spent more than 20 years in the upstream petroleum industry, where she drove innovation and developed her diverse background in project management, technology development and pilot operation.

Vanessa is passionate about energy literacy. In 2016, she founded a company informing elementary and junior high students about the value of diversity in the Canadian energy portfolio.

Vanessa is a Professional Engineer and past member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Petroleum Engineers Canadian Educational Foundation (SPECEF) where she was the founding chair of the organization’s Energy Literacy Committee. Vanessa’s is a member of Decentralized Energy Canada’s Board of Directors.
